Based at Elizabeth Beach in Pacific Palms, we are a small, independent, family company operating sea kayak tours on the enclosed and inshore coastal waters of the highly scenic Great Lakes region on the mid-north coast of New South Wales. We also provide a medium and long-term sea kayak hire for the enclosed waters of the region.
Offering wide variety, our waterways include the blue-water paradise of Port Stephens, the internationally-recognised natural wonderland of the Myall Lakes National Park, Wallis Lake, abundant creeks and rivers, and an 80-kilometre stretch of spectacular coastline consisting of unspoiled beaches and rugged cliffs that conceal hidden coves, caves and canyons all waiting to be explored.
The nature of our climate allows us to operate all year around. In fact, the “winter” months in our region offer some real bonuses.
The principal towns and villages within our region are Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest in the south, Seal Rocks, Bulahdelah, Pacific Palms and the twin towns of Forster and Tuncurry in the north. The southern extent of the region can be reached comfortably in approximately two hours by car from the start of the freeway (F3) at Wahroonga, just north of Sydney.
Guided Kayak Tours
Whether you’re a novice paddler or an experienced sea kayaker — we have a guided tour option that’s sure to appeal.
It may be that you are looking for a relaxed paddle somewhere on the tranquil waters of one of our magnificent lakes or rivers, discovering some of the region’s hidden treasures. Alternatively, you may prefer to take up the challenge and experience the thrills of an inshore open-water tour to explore some of our beautiful coastline. Our open-water tours regularly provide close encounters with dolphins and other forms of marine life (particularly whales during the traveling season!).
Some of our tours are theme based. For example, our full-day bird watching tours provide an excellent opportunity to observe many of the 280 bird species (more than one-third of all the bird species in Australia) that call our region home, for at least some part of the year.
Enclosed or open waters, our tours take you to special places virtually inaccessible by other means and allow you to observe some of our abundant native flora and fauna at very close quarters.
We offer the following tour options:
- Short/introductory tours on enclosed waters (a 3-hour activity with approximately 2 hours on the water) which include early morning breakfast paddles, sunset and moonlight tours;
- Short/introductory tours on inshore coastal waters (similar timing to our short tours on enclosed waters);
- Half-day and full-day tours (approximately 5 and 7 hours respectively);
- Bird watching tours;
- Multi-day kayak & camping expeditions; and
- Tours developed to suit your own special needs
Our guides are qualified to Australian Canoeing Inc. Sea Guide Level 2 as a minimum. Basic paddling and safety instructions are given at the beginning of each tour and, where necessary, reinforced while on the water. Depending on the type of tour, we use both sit-in and sit-on-top kayaks, mostly as doubles.
Touring in small groups allows us to provide a high level of attention to our customers’ safety, comfort and enjoyment during their time with us.
We enjoy both an unblemished safety record and high degree of repeat business.
So that our customers can have the freedom to explore and enjoy the wonderful enclosed waterways of the Great Lakes region at their own pace, we have sea kayaks that are available for medium- and long-term recreational hire. We also offer sea kayaks for hire to competitors participating in competitive paddling events including the annual Hawkesbury and Myall River Classics, and adventure races such as GeoQuest, Arrow 24-hour and Paddle Polaris.
Basic camping gear such as 2-person tents and air mattresses are also available for hire at modest rates.
Our hire service also provides a kayak delivery and pick-up facility which provides customers with many options to choose from to start and finish their paddling adventures. For example, many customers choose to paddle from the top of Myall Lakes to the bottom (approximately 60km). We deliver the kayaks to the start at Neranie and pick them up when they finish at Tea Gardens. We also provide hire customers with maps and details as to what hazards to be aware of along their chosen route, the special features to look out for, where to get drinking water, etc.
